Title Peculiar index relation for Argyres-Douglas theories
Abstract Argyres-Douglas (AD) theories are a series of strongly coupled 4d N=2 superconformal field theories (SCFTs). Despite their strongly coupled nature, it has been argued that they play a similar role as free hypermultiplet SCFTs especially when their global symmetry is gauged. In the second part of this talk, I will show that the Schur index of gauged AD theories is obtained, by a simple change of variables, from the index of gauge theories involving only vector and hypermultiplets. Using this index relation, we can compute the Schur index of various exotic AD theories that arise in S-dual descriptions. In the first part of the talk, according to a request, I will review the construction of AD theories by compactifying 6d (2,0) theory on a Riemann surface, which will be useful (but not absolutely necessary) for understanding the second part.
