| Title | A Third-Quantized Description of Spacetime Wormholes in AdS/CFT |
| Abstract | I will present a third-quantized framework for AdS/CFT in which universes can split and join, providing a quantum description of spacetime wormholes and topology change. Quantum gravitational wavefunctions are assembled into a Fock space of universes, with interactions governed by a third-quantized Hamiltonian. Using AdS$_3$ gravity with a torus boundary, I will explain how reduced phase-space quantization defines the one-universe Hilbert space and radial evolution, while suitable coherent states recover conventional boundary CFT data. This framework raises the possibility that CFT-realizable wavefunctions occupy a special subset of gravitational states, not closed under arbitrary superpositions. The known two-torus spacetime-wormhole amplitude provides concrete input for the interactions and a setting to revisit the factorization problem. I will also discuss how an effective ensemble interpretation can emerge without assuming a fundamental ensemble of boundary theories, and how replica wormholes and baby-universe processes fit into this picture. |
